There are many different kinds of insulation in the market, made by several different manufacturers. Some of the most commonly known insulations include fiberglass batt insulation, expanded polystyrene (eps roof insulation), which is typically white and often used in eifs, extruded polystyrene (xps), which is typically blue or pink and commonly used in masonry applications, and mineral wool

Similarly as EPS, XPS has a wide variety of applications. It can be used for the insulation of … FOAMULAR® Extruded Polystyrene XPS vs. Polyisocyanurate Converting Thermal Conductivity to R-Value When converting these thermal conductivity results to R-value performance, the differences between XPS and polyiso are readily apparent (see Table 1). • XPS: At a mean temperature of 75°F, the thermal conductivity of XPS correlates well with its XPS is considerably more expensive than EPS, yet the physical properties of each (at comparable densities) are actually quite similar, yet often advertised as quite different. Often the differences are due to the ASTM testing protocols and the fact that XPS may have “skins” on the surface prior to fabrication that affect, for example, water absorption. About Insulation. Carlisle manufactures an extensive variety of commercial insulation products that provide increased thermal performance and energy efficiency, including polyisocyanurate (polyiso) insulation and block-molded expanded polystyrene (EPS).

EPS, XPS or PIR for EWI? 2 September, 2013 @ 20:13 · Filed under Westacre I’m having second thoughts about using Polyisocyanurate (PIR) boards for our external wall insulation (EWI). Expanded polystyrene, or XPS, extruded polystyrene, or EPS, and polyisocyanurate, or polyiso, are the three main types of rigid, closed-cell insulation materials. Each type is used in a variety of applications and under conditions where resistance to water and moisture is critical. EPS boards are produced by putting the beads into moulds and heated XPS is slightly stronger than EPS, and although it is used in many of the same applications as EPS, it is particularly a closed-cell plastic, is formed by reacting two monomers in the presence of a blowing agent catalyst (polymerisation).

Although both XPS and EPS are available in compressive strengths of 15, 25, 40, and 60 psi, XPS also comes in 100 psi. If the job requires 100 psi compressive strength, it needs XPS. Another difference between the polyiso and XPS insulation concerns ultraviolet light. XPS is degraded by UV light but the facers on polyiso insulation protect the core from such damage.

Most of the research on the market compares EPS, XPS, Polyiso and Mineral Wool, because they've been readily available on the market. One you may not

The roughened surface of EPS foam provides a shear value EPS is available in several compressive strengths to withstand load and back-fill forces. Also Know, is EPS insulation waterproof? While polyiso, XPS and EPS have some of the strongest waterproofing properties of all insulations, EPS is the weakest of the three and absorbs more water.
